This method can improve the efficiency and reduce the operational costs. Also, in-line ultrasonic reactor can change the production from batch processing to continuous flow processing and achieve a biodiesel yield over 97%.
Ultrasonication can also reduce the seperation time from 5 to 10 hours into 1 hour or less. The amount of catalyst and alcohol are reduced to 15 ~35% due to increase the chemical activity during at cavitation process. The resulted byproduct of glycerin can be increased in purity.
The ultrasonic in-line reactor can be scaled up to any power and size of for different production capacity and application such as :
1) Bio-diesel production
2) Homogenization of liquids or liquid suspensions.
3) Emulsification of processing foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
4) Dissolving solids in solvents.
5) Sonochemistry and others.
